For the Shopping Carioca project in Rio de Janeiro, external gardens were designed, organized around a central axis that connects various gathering points, seating areas, and secondary circulation paths. The proposal integrates rainwater management and green infrastructure, enhancing social spaces and promoting sustainable drainage through rain gardens, which absorb surface runoff during rainy periods. The vegetation, predominantly composed of Atlantic Forest species and fruit-bearing plants like pitanga and jabuticaba, serves as an environmental and sensory element, encouraging visitor interaction with the gardens and bringing nature closer to the urban environment, thereby contributing to users' comfort and well-being.
